The fruit for our iconic Charles Andreas bordeaux blend is grown in our southern Karridale vineyard. Charles Andreas is a blend that can contain the best of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. The blend varies each year with the aim of producing the best wine possible from these classic Bordeaux varieties. The name celebrates the brothers Charles and Andreas Happ who came to Australia from the German Rheningau in 1850 and 1851.
AROMA: A complex aroma of red fruits, blue fruits, truffle, and lilac with hints of tomato leaf, choc mint, cranberry, tapenade, bay leaf and new leather.
PALATE: This full bodied wine displays a lovely balance between fruit and tannin with both vying for dominance yet neither succeeding. The flavours are distinctly red and blue fruits with black currant and hints of green plum, dark chocolate and cedar. The tannins are fine grained, slightly velvety and provide a classic structure with some attractive grip to the long, sweet fruit finish. A wine that will reward those who go to the effort of decanting.
