Kids Clay Workshop: Make Your Own Ceramic Cereal Bowl
Workshop with Kay Manolas
Children 7-12 years
Dates: Tuesday 7 & 14 July
Time: 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
Create your own one-of-a-kind ceramic cereal bowl in this joyful hands-on clay workshop with local ceramic artist Kay Manolas.
Using soft stoneware clay, children will explore shape, texture, pattern and surface design while making a beautiful and functional bowl to use at home. Through playful experimentation and guided making, they’ll discover how everyday objects can become works of art.
The session begins with children learning how to shape clay using moulds before adding decorative details and developing their own unique design. With Kay’s warm guidance, they’ll explore:
• Using moulds to create the bowl form
• Learning slab-building and shaping techniques in clay
• Decorating surfaces with textures, stencils and pattern-making tools
• Exploring colour ideas and layered design through marks and impressions
• Personalising their bowls with creative details, initials and decorative borders
The focus is on creativity, tactile exploration and the excitement of transforming clay into something both beautiful and useful. Children are encouraged to experiment freely and enjoy the process in a relaxed and nurturing environment.
Each child will leave with their own handmade cereal bowl — a special piece designed to be treasured and enjoyed at home.
Firing Option:
Bowls can be taken home unfired on the day, or left with us for professional kiln firing. Please allow one week for drying and firing. Finished bowls can be collected from Commonage Pottery or posted to your home for an additional fee.
