GELLI PLATE PRINTING WORKSHOP WITH ANNIE WINCHCOMBE

Gel printing, also known as gelli printing, is a fascinating form of printing art. Traditionally, creating monoprints required a press to transfer paints from a plate to paper or fabric. However, with the introduction of gelli plates, this process has become more accessible. A gelli plate is a soft silicone plate that enables artists to produce beautiful prints without the need for a press.

To create stunning prints, begin by applying a thin layer of paint to the gelli surface. Then, overlay with a stencil and lay a piece of paper over the plate, gently rubbing to transfer the printed image. The beauty of gelli printing lies in its versatility. You can print multiple layers, experimenting with colors, textures, and stencils to achieve a layered, textured effect.

Workshop includes:

  • All materials, including gelli plates, brayers, and paints

  • Guidance and instruction from Annie Winchcombe

About Annie Winch Art

My work is a heartfelt response to the environment around me.  I am continually drawn to the natural world; the oceans, forests, landscape and plants. I like the complexity of layers and mark-making, and so strive to create interesting, suggestive surfaces that reflect this interconnectedness. I have been influenced by the exploration of natural pattern, colour, collage and stitch, including Australian Indigenous stories and marks. My work evolves through process rather than planning, where I explore mixed media, paint and stitch, allowing the mediums and tools to inform my process. My intent is to create artwork that evokes beauty in colour and marks, so the viewer may experience my connection to the natural world.
