Greg Crowe trained as an architect at WAIT (now Curtin University) in the 1970s, it was at this time his interest in pottery began. Soon afterwards, he completed a degree in design (ceramics) at WAIT. He established Hovea Pottery just after this.
He taught in TAFE for 25 years (1985-2010), including managing the ceramics studio at Carine for 1 years. He currently runs classes from his pottery business and is a casual teacher at Fremantle Art Centre and Midland Junction Art Centre where he teaches how to throw.
He specialises in making all types of pots, mainly thrown on the pottery wheel, this is where his passion lies. He makes all varieties from functional small items like mugs, drinking cups, bowls and dinner plates through to larger and more decorative items – platters, dishes, vases and bottles.
His stunning handcrafted
stoneware clay collection is wood-fired but he has more recently started using gas kilns with the intention of going back to wood-firing in the future.
